OUTDOOR BURNING BAN ISSUED FOR CAMERON COUNTY

On March 10, 2026, the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court officially issued a 90-day Outdoor
Burn Ban for the unincorporated areas of Cameron County, effective immediately, based on the findings
and recommendations of the Cameron County Fire Marshal’s Office.

This means that outdoor burning is temporarily prohibited in areas of the county that are not located
within city limits. The burn ban has been put in place due to dry conditions and weather forecasts that
increase the risk of wildfires. These conditions make outdoor burning especially dangerous, as fires can
quickly spread and threaten homes, property, agricultural land, and public safety.

Ground fires, including the burning of trash, yard waste, or other materials directly on the ground, are
prohibited during the burn ban. However, residential fire pits and BBQ grills are still permitted.
Violations are enforced under Texas Local Government Code §352.081(h) and are punishable as a Class
C misdemeanor.

The Outdoor Burn Ban will remain in effect for up to 90 days, through June 8, 2026, unless lifted earlier
by the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court based on updated recommendations from the Cameron
County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Cameron County officials urge all residents to use extreme caution during this period and to follow all
local and state regulations regarding fire safety.
