State Non-Owner-Occupied Property Tax
As of July 1, 2026 the State of Rhode Island is Implementing the Non-Owner-Occupied Property Tax
The Town of Westerly would like to inform residents and property owners about the current status of the non-owner-occupied property tax that is being mandated by the State of Rhode Island:
• Pursuant to RIGL § 44-72 the State of Rhode Island is imposing property tax on residential properties that are not occupied by the owner for 183 days or more with an assessed value greater than $1,000,000, (one-million dollars)
• The State of Rhode Island will send out bills, and the payments are to be remitted directly back to the State
• The calculation is determined by the following:
$ 2.50 per $500 of value over $1,000,000
