The Parks + Open Space team is busy all year long, but things really start buzzing in the spring. There are several exciting projects taking place, as well as some opportunities for you to get involved!

Mill Creek Park

The one-acre parcel is located across CO-145 from the Shell station and west of Brown Homestead. It will feature walking paths, picnic tables and more. We are currently in the very beginning stages of development and are working on soil preparation, regrading and revegetation of the overall site.

Galloping Goose Park

This site, located between the County’s office at the Miramonte Building and the Courthouse. As a part of celebrating 250 years of the United States and 150 years of the state of Colorado, the Governor’s office has gifted a special sculpture, created by local resident artist Kirk Drogsvold, to the park.

East End Connector Trail
This new trail will connect the County’s existing Idarado Legacy and Bridal Veil Trails. It is a collaborative project with Idarado/Newmonth and is being funded by both stakeholders. Phase 1 (of two) is set to be completed in 2026.

Pheremone Pack Program

Each spring, Parks + Open Space, joins up with various volunteers to help install pheromone packs in impacted and at-risk areas. These pheromone packs discourage the infestation of pests, namely bark beetles, to protect our local trees and forests.

Matterhorn Mill

Work will begin soon, in partnership with the United States Forest Service, to remove the Tram Cable.
