TALLAHASSEE, FL: Last week, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) celebrated the graduation of 19 new recruits in the Transitional Recruit Class XXI. These graduates of the TRC were already Florida certified law enforcement officers that attended an eight-week transitional academy tailored specifically for previously certified officers. The graduating class of 19 transitional recruits consisted of 7 members with previous military experience (U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army) and two who moved to Florida from out of state (Georgia and New Jersey).
Many of these new graduates join FHP’s ranks because of their desire to serve others and uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and compassion. Their commitment to public service reflects the core principles that guide the agency’s work and underscores the vital role troopers play in protecting Floridians and roadways.
“Earning the title of Florida State Trooper is a commitment that demands resilience, integrity, and a deep dedication to serving others,” said Executive Director Dave Kerner. “These 19 graduates have proven they possess those qualities and more. With every new trooper who steps out to protect our roads and communities, Florida grows stronger and safer. Welcome to the Patrol. Your effort has brought you here, and your future of service begins now.”
“By completing one of the most rigorous training programs in the country, these new troopers have demonstrated exceptional discipline and an unwavering drive to serve Floridians and visitors alike,” said FHP Colonel Gary Howze. “We are confident they will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and compassion as they join the ranks of Florida’s Finest. Florida is gaining dedicated public servants who are ready to meet every challenge with courage, readiness, and heart.”
The new troopers will be placed with a certified Field Training Officer (FTO) upon reporting to their duty stations. They will work with their FTO for 10 to 14 weeks before being released to solo duty.
The Florida Highway Patrol, known as Florida’s Finest, is committed to the highest standards of courtesy, service, and protection. Each trooper is dedicated to serving Floridians by patrolling Florida’s roads, enforcing the law, and ensuring visitors and residents feel safe and secure.
