Suspect Arrested in Northwest Assault

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in an assault that occurred in Northwest.

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., First District officers responded to the 500 block of New Jersey Avenue, Northwest, in reference to indecent exposure. The victims reported that the suspect was outside of the hotel undressing. When the victims told the suspect to leave, the suspect ran inside of the hotel, threw bottles at the victims, and used hateful slurs against the victims. The suspect then fled the scene.

Responding officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest. 31-year-old Husani Chacho of Northwest, DC, was charged with Simple Assault (Hate/Bias) Destruction of Property (hate/bias), Lewd, Indecent, or Obscene Acts, Unlawful entry, and Disorderly Conduct.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this offense as potentially being motivated by hate or bias. The designation can be changed at any point as an investigation proceeds, and more information is gathered. A designation as a hate crime by MPD does not mean that prosecutors will prosecute it as a hate crime. The Special Liaison Branch is assisting with this investigation.
