MPD Arrests Man for a 2023 Attempted Armed Carjacking
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District announce the arrest of a man for an armed carjacking.
On June 12, 2023, at approximately 1:25 a.m., three suspects approached the victim in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast. The suspects demanded the victim’s property while one of the suspects brandished a handgun. The suspects assaulted the victim and took the victim’s property. The suspects were not able to take the victim’s vehicle. The suspects fled the scene. The victim drove to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, March 28, 2024, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 43-year-old Jimmy Lee Johnson, Jr., of Northeast, DC. He was charged with Armed Carjacking.
The case remains under investigation. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.
