Fatal Traffic Accident in Southeast, DC
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal traffic accident that killed a man in Southeast, DC.
The preliminary investigation revealed that on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at approximately 5:32 pm, a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck was travelling westbound in the 3300 block of Pennsylvania, Avenue, Southeast, at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of his vehicle and mounted a raised median, struck a small tree, then crossed over the median into oncoming traffic. A 2017 Lexus RX350 SUV was traveling eastbound in the 3300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast when the pickup truck struck the SUV.
The driver of the pickup truck died on the scene.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The decedent has been identified as 34-year-old John Gibson of Greenbelt, MD.
