Samoa commemorates 60 years

To commemorate Samoa’s 60th year of independence, the island nation launched its anniversary logo and theme “Folau ma le Faatuatua” (To Sail with Faith).

Celebrations commenced on June 1st for what will be a year-long celebration of the country’s diamond jubilee till 31st of May 2023.

Centered on the theme of ‘to sail with faith’, the commemoration serves as an important platform to strengthen unity as Samoa journeys into the future.

The main celebrations will be held in September to coincide with the Teuila Festival that was held virtually for the last two years due to the pandemic.

Some major events planned include the return of the Fautasi Race (longboat), Miss Samoa Pageant and the 20th Siva Afi (Fire Knife Dance) International Competition.

All major events held throughout the country will contribute to the commemoration of the diamond jubilee. A weekly calendar and What’s On in Beautiful Samoa can be accessed from www.samoa.travel
