SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: 

On July 13, 2022, at approximately 1506 hours, Troopers responded to a report of an impaired driver stopped in the roadway of Morgan Horse Farm Road in the Town of Weybridge near Vermont Marble Power. Troopers located the vehicle parked in the roadway and identified the operator as John Moriarty (72) of Bridport, VT.

Investigation revealed Moriarty had operated the vehicle on a public highway and subsequently collided with a boulder as well as a utility box in the area, causing damage to the vehicle as well as the utility box. While speaking with Moriarty, Troopers detected indicators of impairment. Moriarty was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing. At the conclusion of processing, Moriarty was released to a sober party with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on August 1, 2022 at 1230 hours.

 

The Vermont State Police was assisted by Middlebury Regional EMS on scene.
