PENNSYLVANIA, January 21 - demonstrating compassion for those with whom he disagreed; and

WHEREAS, In the afternoon of January 6, 2021, while an angry

mob stormed the United States Capitol Building in an attempt to

prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020

Electoral College, Officer Sicknick did his duty and fought to

protect members of Congress, staff and others present inside of

the Capitol building; and

WHEREAS, During the incursion, Officer Sicknick sustained

head injuries after allegedly being struck when a protestor

threw a fire extinguisher while trying to illegally enter the

Capitol building; and

WHEREAS, The injuries Officer Sicknick sustained led to his

unfortunate passing the following day, January 7, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Officer Sicknick has been described as a hero for

his bravery in fighting back against a crowd while vastly

outnumbered, but fulfilled his sworn duty nonetheless; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his service to the nation, Speaker

of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi

ordered flags to half mast in his honor; and

WHEREAS, Tributes to his honorable service have poured in

from officials around the United States; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the life and service of

United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, commend him

for his heroic commitment to duty and offer condolences to his

family.
