Gov. Ricketts’ Constitution Day Statement
LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts issued the following statement in observance of Constitution Day. Constitution Day is celebrated on September 17, 2021.
“Since its signing in 1787, the U.S. Constitution has served as the enduring foundation of our democratic republic. On Constitution Day, we celebrate and give thanks for the principles it embodies, including federalism, the separation of powers, the Bill of Rights, and checks and balances among the branches of the federal government.”
“Americans are not subject to rulers, only to the rule of law. As John Adams wrote, the United States is ‘a government of laws and not of men.’ Our Constitution has withstood the test of time, and our freedom depends on a continuing respect for it. As we observe Constitution Day this year, let’s recommit ourselves to nurturing the civic virtues such as charity and self-sacrifice that our nation’s Founders knew would be necessary to preserve our Republic.”
