California Chief Justice Commemorates Constitution Day
On Constitution Day, Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye led the reading of the U.S. Constitution in an event organized by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California.
The Chief Justice shared in her opening remarks, "The Constitution is a social contract governing the duties and protections and rights of Government of the people."
Justice Judith McConnell and several other members of the Chief Justice's Power of Democracy Steering Committee also participated.
Statewide, judicial officers from 6 counties visited 38 classrooms for lessons on Constitutional Law, the Rule of Law, and the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Each participating classes were from Civic Learning Award-winning schools in 6 counties, invited to participate in the a special Judges in the Classroom program created to deliver lessons to schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
