Knowledge Preservation, Saving Our Collective Knowledge
Knowledge Preservation Inc is determined to create a system to safeguard knowledge in such a way that it becomes easily accessible in the event of a global catastrophe. As part of this goal Knowledge Preservation has been established as a non-profit for the protection against the loss of humanity’s knowledge. There has been a 15c211 application filed with the United States Internal Revenue Service. In order to achieve their objectives, Knowledge Preservation will be run by an elected 11 person Knowledge Preservation Executive Council. All decisions must be approved by a two thirds majority vote made by what may well be an international member Council. This includes all funding expenditures. Council membership will rotate on a consistent 180 day cycle but meet on line at least once every month.
After each approximately six month time period a new Council will be voted in. Also existing Council members will have the opportunity to be re-elected. This concept is really efficient in theory when it comes to planning, ideally there would be perspectives from people who encompass a vast range of knowledge and experience. Combining these different sources of knowledge is the best way to tackle the awesome responsibility of retaining the entirety of human understanding. The mission is to start a global conversation about preparation for all possible scenarios.
Voting will be managed by Votenet (www.votenet.com) which has been engaged as the professional voting organization who will manage the voting by Knowledge Preservation members for the first eleven Executive Council members with such voting tabulations to begin on or before December 12, 2014. A new 11 person Executive Council will be voted in every 180 days.
Voting will ideally be International in reach.
The goal here is to create a system which would be able to explain our current level of technology, medicine, art, science and culture. All of this information can be very useful in a short-term or long-term survivalist scenario. In order to effectively portray this data, one of the goals of Knowledge Preservation is to create a Knowledge Preservation Solar Powered Hand Powered computer or “KnowPack” that has all of the most essential information stored in its memory banks.
The concept is complete but the design would be a solar powered, hand powered mobile device, laptop, notebook or watch which would download step by step information for performing tasks. This would include medical information such as pain management, sterilization techniques for dressing and treating wounds and medical procedure descriptions. This is vital as under devastating circumstances simple illnesses may become life threatening. This device would also contain an encyclopedia collection’s worth of accessible reference information for, among other things, producing electricity. Completing a working KnowPack would be the first goal of the Knowledge Preservation Council.
The second development of the Council would be to create a series of fully functional Knowledge Shelters. These internationally distributed shelters would be would be 100 foot cylinders with a section for disaster survivors or sufferers including medicine, food, blankets, hand powered generators, seeds, farming tools and easy to build smaller shelters. There would be a teaching chamber in the shelter which would aim, in part, to reintroduce people back into civilized society. After the teaching chamber lies the knowledge vault holding media on thousands of subjects. It is imperative that these shelters are self-powered.
Currently Knowledge Preservation is hosting an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign until December 18th. Those who make a five dollar pledge will automatically become a member of Knowledge Preservation. Donators will vote and possibly voted to the Council as members. All members have to do is go to the Knowledge Preservation website and write 100 words explaining their candidacy for the Council. On December 13th all of the confirmed members who have run as candidates for the Knowledge Preservation Executive Council will be voted on by the full membership. Furthermore, as a non-profit small business, all donations can be deducted from tax returns. The crowdfunding proceeds will be dispersed by the Council within 15 business days of the close of the campaign. This will allow the Council to plan on how the initial funds will be expended. All of this work will ensure that humanity’s precious knowledge is never lost again.
