LOS ANGELES, CA , USA, June 7, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Who: the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) along with partners: Pacoima Beautiful, the River Project and Urban Semillas.

What: The LA Conservation Corps received a license to operate the non-motorized boating program on the Los Angeles River. The LA Conservation Corps and partners will offer guided kayak trips down a 1.5 natural-bottom stretch of the Los Angeles River in the San Fernando Valley within the Sepulveda Basin.

Where: Participants will assemble at the parking lot at Balboa Park, located at: 6001 Balboa Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91406 near the soccer fields.

When: Tickets will go on sale on Monday, June 9 at 7AM and can be purchased at www.paddlethelariver.org. The program will commence on Monday, June 16. Three trips will launch each day: 9:00AM, 10:45AM and 12:30 PM. The LA Conservation Corps will lead trips for an 15 week period on: Mondays, Tuesdays, (Wednesdays-reserved for youth trips), Thursdays and Saturdays. The program will conclude on September 13.

Why: The Paddle the LA River program represents the collective efforts of several environmental organizations uniting to enhance public perception about the Los Angeles River. By paddling this scenic stretch, people experience first-hand that our urban River is part of an ecosystem that is both beautiful and significant to Los Angeles’ past and future.


Other: The LA Conservation Corps’ primary mission is to provide at-risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.
