Commissioners Appoint Laura E. Aldrete as next Jefferson County Manager
Following a competitive recruitment and evaluation process, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners formally appointed Laura E. Aldrete as Jefferson County’s next county manager during public hearings on Aug. 11. Aldrete, a lifelong Coloradan, brings deep executive leadership experience and a proven track record in community development.
Aldrete was raised in Jefferson County and is a proud graduate of Wheat Ridge High School. She has dedicated her career to fostering vibrant neighborhoods across the Denver Metro Area and beyond. Currently, Laura works on connecting affordability solutions, transit access, and economic development in Denver.
“Bringing my experience and passion to a place that is close to my heart is an opportunity that I am incredibly excited about,” Aldrete said. “I look forward to leading Jefferson County into its next chapter of community service and growth.”
Her previous roles include serving as Denver’s deputy mayor and executive director of Community Planning and Development (CPD), where she managed a $43 million budget and led a team of over 300 employees during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID pandemic. Throughout her career, she has focused on planning and development in both the public and private sectors. She understands the importance of deep public engagement to creating quality community-driven plans, as well as the complex financial challenges often facing communities like Jefferson County.
“Laura has successfully navigated many challenges that are familiar to Jefferson County,” Board Chair Andy Kerr said. “Her proven track record, professionalism, and care for the community made her an outstanding choice for us.”
Now that Aldrete has been formally appointed, her official start date will be Aug. 24.
