Meet the Summer 2026 Interns

Summer is off to a busy start at the Utah State Archives! We are excited to welcome our largest intern cohort ever. These talented students and emerging professionals bring a wide range of interests and experiences to the Archives, where they will spend the summer working on projects that support records management, preservation, access, and historical research.

The internship program has grown significantly over the years, creating opportunities for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful projects that help preserve and share Utah’s history. This year’s record-setting cohort reflects the continued interest in archives, records management, and public history careers, and we are excited to support these interns as they develop new skills and explore the profession.

After meeting staff and touring the building, they jumped right into their assignments. Get to know our Summer 2026 interns and the work they will be doing over the coming months:

Katelyn Panter recently graduated from BYU-Idaho with a Bachelor of General Studies in Language and Letters and plans to begin a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program next year. A self-described “kin-keeper,” Katelyn is passionate about genealogy, macro- and microhistory, and using historical records to bring people together and strengthen community connections. This summer, she is accessioning records with the Archival Services team.

Gavin Behrens is a junior at Utah State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in art history. He has gained hands-on experience through positions with several local and university museums and libraries. Gavin is passionate about history and its ability to connect people to their roots, spark meaningful conversations, and help communities use the past as a foundation for the future. This summer, he is working with the Records and Information Management team.

Sienna Wood is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in international relations and economics at Baylor University. While in high school, she completed a historical research project focused on nuclear testing and Utah’s Downwinders. She plans to continue her research experience this fall by studying international political topics. This summer, she is exploring the Archives’ collections while researching and sharing the story of Utah’s archives and history.

Leena Maxey recently graduated from Emporia State University with a Master of Library and Information Science degree with an emphasis in archival studies. She currently works at the Salt Lake City Main Library on the Fiction, Teen, and Periodicals floor. Leena is pursuing a career in archives and is excited to learn more about the accessioning process while helping preserve Utah’s history. This summer, she is accessioning records with the Archival Services team.

Madison Harris recently earned a master’s degree in history from Utah State University. Her areas of study included American history, gender history, and espionage history. Madison is interested in pursuing a career in history education or public outreach and is excited to contribute to the accessioning team this summer.

We are thrilled to have Katelyn, Gavin, Sienna, Leena, and Madison with us this summer and look forward to seeing the impact of their work!
