Nash County is pleased to announce the appointment of two new department leaders. Angela Manning will join Nash County as the new Health Department Director. Manning brings several years of public health leadership experience, most recently serving as Deputy Director of the Pitt County Health Department, where she provided executive oversight for Public Health, Environmental Health, administrative operations, facility management, budgeting, contracting, and rural health initiatives. Prior to that role, she served as Environmental Health Director for Pitt and Wilson counties, where she was responsible for accreditation readiness, emergency preparedness initiatives, quality assurance programs, and regulatory compliance efforts.

She has also served in numerous statewide leadership roles, including the East Carolina University Environmental Health Advisory Board, the North Carolina Public Health Accreditation Program, and the North Carolina Food Safety Advisory Council. Manning earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from East Carolina University and succeeds longtime Nash County Health Director Bill Hill, who retired earlier this year.

Ashley Howell has been selected as Nash County's new Animal Services Director, a new position for the County. Howell brings years of experience in animal welfare and shelter leadership, most recently serving as Shelter Manager for Page County, Virginia, where she oversaw shelter operations, staff management, animal care, public outreach, and community programs.

She is passionate about improving outcomes for shelter animals, working closely with rescue partners and community organizations to expand lifesaving opportunities and promote responsible pet ownership through spay-and-neuter programs. Howell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University and is expected to earn a Master of Public Administration degree from Liberty University this December.

"Both bring valuable skills and experience to their respective departments and will play important roles in helping meet the needs of our citizens. I look forward to their contributions to our leadership team and their service to the residents of Nash County."

 Manning and Howell began their new roles with Nash County on June 1.
