Staff Accountant I
Summary of Work
As the Staff Accountant I, you will support the financial operations of Bank of North Dakota through accurate accounting, regulatory compliance, and reliable reporting. In this role, you will process accounts payable; support tax reporting through W-9 collection and 1099 preparation; and maintain daily general ledger activity, including accruals, amortization, depreciation, and prepaid expenses. You will reconcile the Federal Reserve account each day, prepare weekly reporting, and assist with the reconciliation and analysis of bank accounts, trust accounts, and Federal Home Loan Bank borrowings.
You will help ensure compliance with legislative and record retention requirements by maintaining accurate documentation, monitoring retention schedules, and supporting internal and external audits. Your work will also contribute to the Bank’s internal control environment by helping verify compliance with established policies and procedures.
To promote cross-functional development, this role will also be trained in key Trust operations. This may include processing transactions within the bond registrar system, managing principal and interest payments, processing issuer payments, supporting OFAC reporting, tracking draws and warrant payments, reconciling Cash Bond CDs, posting monthly interest, and assisting with Trust-related audits and internal control activities.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have an associate degree with coursework in accounting, business management, or finance. Equivalent combinations of related college-level coursework and professional work experience may be considered in place of the degree. No prior accounting experience is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred, and experience with Director and Navigator is a plus.
