KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — On Tuesday, Adair County commissioners met to discuss the budgets for multiple county departments.

The clerk’s office and the treasurer’s office both requested hearings to talk about potential budget cuts and explain their needs for funding.

The areas that were under discussion for both offices included supplies, dues and conventions, mileage and training.

During the meetings, there were questions and conversations from all parties.

*”So, I had requested that to explain, find out where the cuts were going to be made,” said Treasurer Lori Smith. ” And I could explain why and how I was using those monies. They were wanting to cut supplies, I think they just had a question as to why they were higher and the other category was dues, training, conventions, things like that.”*

On Wednesday, we spoke with Presiding Commissioner Mark Shahan, who told us that the proposed budgets for both offices were approved, and the proposed cuts would not happen.

*”After some conversations we had with all the offices, we granted their requests,” Shahan said. “And we feel like it’s a good budgetary number and we’ll watch how it goes through the year and have more questions next year.”*
