A RESOLUTION
Observing March 20, 2026, as "Eid al-Fitr Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Muslims observe two major annual religious
observances, Ramadan and Hajj, which correspond to the holidays
of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha; and
WHEREAS, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are observed according
to the lunar-based Islamic calendar; and
WHEREAS, Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the
Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the end of Ramadan, a month
dedicated to fasting and prayer and a period of spiritual
reflection and renewal; and
WHEREAS, In addition to celebrating the end of fasting with
family gatherings and feasts, many Muslims pay Zakat al-Fitr, an
obligatory charitable giving, attend congregational prayers and
listen to a communal sermon known as a khutbah, seeking Allah's
forgiveness and continued blessings; and
WHEREAS, Eid al-Fitr is also commonly celebrated by wearing
new clothing, visiting relatives and neighbors and sharing food
