Debris collides with passenger on SR-189
On Monday, September 8, 2025, at 2:40 pm, a Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on SR-189 near milepost 18 in lane one. At that location, a Concrete form stake came over the concrete barrier, struck the hood of the Toyota, and went through the windshield. The concrete stake impaled the front passenger in the chest. It is unknown whether the stake was lost from a vehicle immediately preceding the impact, or if it was previous road debris that was struck and kicked up. Life flight responded and landed on SR-189, but ultimately the 18-year-old female passenger was transported by ground in serious condition.
The Utah Highway Patrol is looking for any information regarding the origin of the debris. If you were traveling in the area and have information that can assist Troopers in this investigation, please contact the non-emergency Summit County Dispatch line at 435-615-3600.
