New State Secretary at Ministry for Foreign Affairs

SWEDEN, August 15 - The Government has appointed Karin Juhlin as the new State Secretary to Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa. She will be responsible for issues concerning international development cooperation. Diana Janse, who previously held this portfolio, will now be responsible for issues related to trade and investment promotion.

“I’m very happy to welcome Karin Juhlin to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. With her solid experience from both organisational and policy work within the Moderate Party, I’m convinced that she will maintain the momentum of reforming Swedish development assistance. Meanwhile, I’m glad that Diana Janse will use her broad knowledge and international network to push for more free trade in the world,” says Mr Dousa.

“After focusing on development assistance reform and tough prioritisations for nearly three years, I now look forward to taking on trade and promotion issues. In turbulent times, I want to use my international experience to promote the position of both Swedish companies and Sweden as a whole on global markets,” says Ms Janse.

“The Government has overhauled development assistance policy in order to help as many people in need as possible and to ensure Swedish taxpayers that their tax money ends up in the right hands. I look forward to continuing working to increase transparency and effectiveness in Swedish development assistance,” says Ms Juhlin.

Ms Juhlin comes from her most recent role as Deputy Secretary-General of the Moderate Party. She has extensive experience working within the Party and was also a political adviser at the Ministry of Employment under the Reinfeldt Government. Ms Juhlin will take office today 15 August 2025.
