MPD Arrests Suspect in a Hit and Run in Northeast
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department announce the arrest of a woman in a hit and run crash that occurred in Northeast earlier this month.
On Monday, May 12, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., a father and young boy were just leaving a store and walking through a parking lot in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast. A woman driving a dark color SUV pulled into the shopping center parking lot and struck the child, then fled the location. The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The father was not injured.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, 34-year-old Atoya Smith, of Hyattsville, MD, was arrested and charged with Leaving After Colliding.
