Superintendent Degenfelder Disappointed In School Facilities Commission Laughing At Litigation From Parents

CHEYENNE – Upon adjournment of the meeting on Tuesday, December 10, several members of the School Facilities Commission joined in laughter, joking about the lawsuit filed by concerned Cheyenne parents over a plan to close eight local elementary schools.

“I ran for State Superintendent because I was tired of the rights of parents being stifled. Parents have a fundamental and constitutional right to direct their child’s education and we must stop treating the concerns of parents as a laughing matter,” said State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder.

“These Cheyenne parents are concerned because their neighborhood schools are being taken from them. They have every right to seek legal redress in court and should be taken seriously by state leaders. I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism and empathy displayed at the School Facilities Commission,” said Degenfelder.

The School Facilities Commission is independent of the Wyoming Department of Education and Superintendent Degenfelder has no vote on the Commission.
