2024 Asian Evaluation Week
Background
The Independent Evaluation Department (IED) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Institute (AFDI), are pleased to announce the 2024 Asian Evaluation Week to be held on September 2 to 5 2024 in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. This year's theme is "Innovations for Influential Evaluation".
The AEW is a leading evaluation knowledge sharing and learning platform in the Asia and Pacific region. In the last 9 years, the event has established itself as a highly relevant forum for promoting knowledge and partnerships to advance evaluation and development effectiveness at the national, regional, and international levels. Join in this unique opportunity to meet development and evaluation partners from different parts of the globe, attend seminars and exchange knowledge on development challenges and solutions.
The 2023 AEW, the first in person event after the COVID – 19 pandemic, was held in Bangkok, Thailand, had evaluation knowledge sharing sessions and gathered 212 participants, representing 58 countries.
Theme, date, and location
New challenges and opportunities continuously arise from rapidly changing global development environment. Technological advancements are fostering opportunities in supporting and influencing development interventions. Transformation of development organizations becomes key to staying relevant and influential in terms of development priorities, effectiveness and efficiency for delivering development targets. Transnational and transborder challenges requiring collective action among affected countries within regions is a main pillar of regional cooperation and integration in Asia and the Pacific. Within these backdrop, the 2024 Asian Evaluation Week will focus on the digital era, organizational transformation, and regional public goods. The theme for the 2024 AEW is Innovations for Influential Evaluation.
Sessions for the 2024 AEW are organized around the following identified subthemes:
Subtheme 1: Navigating Development Impact in the Digital Era. This subtheme highlights the pivotal role of technology in sharing evaluation practices. Learn more about real-time data collection, analytics, visualization, and ethical considerations, all aimed at enhancing development interventions.
Subtheme 2: Leveraging Evaluation for Organizational Transformation. This subtheme underscores the pivotal role of evaluation in driving change within public and private sectors, civil society, and development organizations. Learn from past reorganization efforts to enhance development priorities, effectiveness, and efficiency through outcome-based strategies, capacity enhancement and more.
Subtheme 3: Evaluating Regional Public Goods for Sustainable Cooperation. This subtheme highlights the importance of collective action across affected countries in Asia and the Pacific. Discussions will explore evaluation results that shape proposed strategies in critical areas such as environment, climate change, health, education, and trade.
The 2024 AEW will be held in Shanghai, PRC at Conrad Shanghai Hotel from 2 to 5 September.
