Petition circulator arrested for fraud involving abortion initiative

TAMPA, Fla. – After a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigation Andres Felipe Salazar, 37, Tampa, was arrested for criminal use of personal identification information.   Salazar is a paid petition circulator and is accused of petition fraud on the abortion initiative, “Floridians Protecting Freedom.” The suspect is accused of submitting more than 30 fraudulent signatures in Sarasota County.   Tampa Police Department made the arrest. 
The arrest was the result of an investigation led by FDLE’s Election Crime Unit (ECU) working with the Florida Department of State Office of Election Crimes and Security (OECS) and with assistance from the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office.  
Salazar was arrested by Tampa PD on March 21, 2024 and booked into Hillsborough County Jail on 12 counts of criminal use of personal identification information. 
Additional charges may be filed pending the completion of the investigation.  The case will be prosecuted by Attorney General Ashley Moody’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.
