The Northern California Community Blood Bank (NCCBB) will be holding a blood drive on March 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Garberville.
The blood drive, sponsored by SoHum Health at their Sprowl Creek campus located at 286 Sprowl Creek. No appointment is needed to donate blood, walk-ins are welcome.
According to the American Red Cross, every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. urgently requires blood or platelets, highlighting the critical need for blood donation. With approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells, nearly 5,000 units of platelets, and 6,500 units of plasma needed daily in the country, the demand for blood components is constant.
Shockingly, a single car accident victim may necessitate up to 100 units of blood, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an ample blood supply. Since blood and platelets cannot be manufactured and must come from volunteer donors, each donation plays a crucial role in saving lives. With one donation capable of saving multiple lives, including those battling cancer who may require frequent transfusions during treatment, donating blood is an invaluable contribution to society’s health and well-being.
