Weekly Traffic Update: October 13, 2023

Elm St. closure extended through October 18

Originally announced in the Weekly Traffic Update for October 6, City contractors closed Elm St. between N 2nd St. and N 3rd St. for work associated with the Vermont St. Bridge Waterline project.

Due to delays in the project, the City now anticipates this closure to end October 20, pending weather or other delays.

 

Levee surface maintenance to begin October 16

Beginning Monday, October 16, City crews will begin maintenance work on a portion of the levee trail spanning between the Kansas River bridge and Riverfront Park. This work will include the laying of additional rock and materials onto the levee trail. Trail users will not be able to travel through this section during this maintenance. Additionally, City vehicles will be present on the levee trail in that area.

The City anticipates this closure to last for two weeks, pending weather or other delays.

 

Kasold Dr. road improvements project to continue north of Clinton Pkwy

Originally announced in the Weekly Traffic Update for October 6, City contractors closed both northbound lanes of Kasold Dr. north of Clinton Pkwy. to complete street maintenance in that area. Traffic has been maintained during this time, flowing head-to-head in the southbound lanes on Kasold Dr.

As this project continues, four to seven days of undisturbed curing will be required for the material to set. Residents may notice a reduction of crew presence in the area during that time.

The City anticipates this closure to end October 30, pending weather or other delays.

 

6th St. and Crestline Dr. lane closure

Contractors will close one lane of traffic on eastbound 6th St. near Crestline Dr. This closure will be in place during normal working hours (9 A.M. to 4 P.M.) and be removed each evening.

The City anticipates this closure to end October 24, pending weather or other delays.

 

Pavement maintenance to continue at Iowa St. and 21st St.

Originally announced in the Weekly Traffic Update from September 29, City crews and City contractors will continue performing intermittent pavement maintenance work on Iowa St. near the intersection of 21st St.

Traffic flow may be impacted in different areas during this work.

 

 

6th St. project to continue at Vermont St.

Originally announced in the Weekly Traffic Update for October 6, City contractors closed eastbound 6th Street Traffic at Vermont Street to complete utility work in that area. The utility work is complete and street restoration is underway.

As this project continues, four to seven days of undisturbed curing will be required for the material to set. Residents may notice a reduction of crew presence in the area during that time.

Sunset Dr. to close between Oxford Rd. and Stratford Rd.

Originally announced in the Weekly Traffic Update from October 6, City contractors will now close Sunset Dr. between Oxford Rd. and Stratford Rd. to perform utility work in the road related to the Stratford Water Tower project beginning next week.

The City anticipates this closure to end Monday, October 23, pending weather or other delays.

 

 

City begins work on Sidewalk Improvement Program

Beginning next week, City contractors will begin work in various places across Lawrence for the Sidewalk Improvement Program.

This program will create minor, short term impacts for vehicular traffic. Sidewalk closures and pedestrian detours will be in place in areas where work is being performed.

 

 

Inverness Dr. to close for final overlay

Beginning the afternoon of October 18, City contractors will close Inverness Dr. between Clinton Pkwy. and 24th Pl. for the final phase of overlay and patch work. This work is being timed to occur during the USD 497 Fall Break. To better assist drivers in that area, the 24th Pl. and Crossgate Dr. roundabout has been reopened to through traffic.

The City anticipates this closure to be lifted before USD 497 resumes classes on October 24.
