Ahead of the borders opening on July 11th in Wallis and Futuna, the Mission Tourisme or tourism department worked tirelessly to ensure that COVID-19 protocols and procedures for tourism operators and facilities were ready for international arrivals.

The department had commenced capital project works in and around the airports on both islands.

In Wallis, the construction of an information kiosk at the Hihifo Airport that started in June is expected to be completed by September. The new kiosk or information booth will assist visitors to the island nation in providing updates, information or guides to inbound tour operators, destinations and establishments for the duration of their stay on the island. The kiosk will be opened to the public and the duration of international flight hours.

While in Vele on the island of Futuna, renovation works to its tourist office should be completed later this month (August). The new premises will allow visitors to the island to easily access information when arriving in the country. These projects are funded by the tourism department.

The department has also upgraded its social media marketing and advertising campaigns through promotional videos of the island nation as a tourist destination on various digital social media platforms. Digital platforms are being increasingly utilized for sharing and updating tourism information, and also promoting trade, selling of local specialties and handicrafts, including growing small businesses and individual entrepreneurs.

This digital marketing promotional activity creates awareness, educates travellers and promotes the islands as a destination. The Mission Tourisme in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Trade and Agriculture are looking after this project on various Social media networks and on the official website.
