Washington
(Dec 8)
Chairman of the GOP Majority Transition Team Greg Walden (R-OR) issued the following statement highlighting the 2011 House Calendar released today by incoming Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA). With a working group led by Reps. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), improving the scheduling and management of legislative business was one of three areas of focus for the transition team. The full calendar for the first session of the 112th Congress can be found here .
“The calendar released today is an important step to change the way Congress does business, and I applaud the work of Majority Leader-elect Cantor. This structure reflects our commitment to create a Congress that is more efficient, productive, and responsive to the American people. The new calendar will promote more thoughtful legislating and greater oversight, while ensuring members of Congress do not become insulated from the voices of the people they represent. I am grateful for the work of our transition team and the members of both parties who contributed to these important reforms.”
