Detroit, Michigan (CaymanMama.com) — Google’s Nexus One is a rumored soon-to-be-launched smartphone that will run the Android mobile operating system, and the technology giant has sent out the official invitations for a January 5 “Android press gathering” to get the show on the road.

The event will take place at Google’s main Mountain View, Calif. campus, and although the invite didn’t specifically mention the Nexus One, many suspect the highlight of the gathering will be the official unveiling of the newest smartphone.

The cat was let out of the bad, as they say, when Gizmodo and Engadget posted unofficial documents advertising Nexus One’s retail price: $529.99 “unlocked” or $179.99 with a two-year T-Mobile contract with one specific limited service plan. Apparently, the phone will only work on T-Mobile’s network in the U.S.

Service with AT&T will be restricted to 2G.

According to PCMag.com, “Gizmodo says that to get a $179.99 Nexus One you’ll need to sign up for a single, specific T-Mobile plan (500 minutes, unlimited data), which makes absolutely zero sense unless Google doesn’t actually want to sell any phones.”
