Vaccine maker ships out first H1N1 flu vaccines
Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) — The Paris-based drug giant, Sanofi Pasteur announced Tuesday that is has shipped its first shipment of H1N1 swine-flu vaccine to the American government from its U.S. plant in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania.
Additional shipments will be sent out on a regular basis. All total, some 75.3 million doses are expected to arrive through December, said Donna Cary, director of public relations for the vaccine maker.
Other vaccine makers have been contracted by the government to create the H1N1 vaccines including GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) and AstraZeneca PLC (AZN).
Due to security restrictions, Cary would not say which of the distribution centers coordinated by the Department of Health and Human Services will get the initial vaccines.
“It’s a tremendous milestone and one that we’re pleased to reach in a timely manner,” said Cary.
