Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) — The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has delayed a vote on whether to increase toll rates until July.

According to the Dallas Morning News, many expect that an increase will occur due to a need to raise funds for the completion of promised toll road projects, despite the delay on the vote.

NTTA board member and former Mayor of Garland, Bob Day, proposed to the committee a move to double toll rates for drivers who have not purchased Toll Tags, as well as wait until 2010 to implement the total increase.

“Let’s face it, this is kind of a tax on transportation,” Day said.

According to the report, the proposal to increase rates from 11 cents to 14.5 cents per mile, if passed, will go into effect September 1.
