India gets on board the Google Earth wagon
Denver, Colorado (CaymanMama.com) — As Google Earth continues to show incredibly detailed images of the earth from the air, more and more countries are getting on board with their own version of the popular 3-D satellite image program.
Indian space scientists have constructed their own rendition of Google Earth to provide high quality aerial images of the country’s expansive terrain.
According to CNN.com, “The beta version of the geoportal was unveiled Wednesday in New Delhi by Prithviraj Chavan, science and technology minister. Its name — Bhuvan Science — means earth in Sanskrit.”
The Indian Google earth application will show detailed satellite images of India’s surface while giving users the ability to easily navigate to virtually any angle, the department of space explained.
“It (the portal) enables user(s) to fly from space to street level, to grab, spin and zoom down to any place,” the department said.
According to Indian space researchers, the Indian Google earth will have functions for “measuring, drawing, saving, printing and for visualizing thematic information.”
India has the biggest conglomeration of remote-sensing satellites in the world, as per India’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center.
