Google makes amends with newspapers - launches Google Fast Flip
Buffalo, New York (CaymanMama.com) — In light of the strained relationship between Internet search engine giant Google and newspapers, something had to give.
Due to the popularity of Google News which distributes newspaper articles online, readers have virtually put down the paper and take to the electronic versions of their favorite periodical, causing several large newspapers to stop their presses altogether.
Currently, Google News allows readers to quickly scan top headlines and story briefs without ever leaving Google.
That all changed on September 14th, when Google attempted to make amends with newspapers by rolling out Fast Flip, a free online news aggregator that gives readers the ability to scan through participating newspapers, while giving those sources a share of the revenue from ads placed on the site.
Upon its launch, Google Flip had 39 mostly US-based news partners.
Krishna Bharat of Google News said, “Fast Flip is mostly for longer shelf-life content, the kind of content you want to recommend to other people.”
Google’s Fast Flip was created after Larry Page, founder of Google, “asked why the web was not more like a magazine, allowing users to flip from screen to screen seamlessly.”
