Meeting with President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi

TAJIKISTAN, November 27 - On the sidelines of the 15th Economic Cooperation Organization Summit, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi in Ashgabat.

The discussion focused on the current state and prospects for developing Tajik – Pakistani relations, as well as major international and regional issues.

At the outset of the meeting, President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan pays constant attention to the further development of cooperation with Pakistan.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to promote the enhancement of trade and economic ties, as well as cargo transportation, and called for stepping-up the work of the Tajikistan-Pakistan Joint Commission on Trade and Economic cooperation.

A proposal was made to hold the meetings of the Tajikistan – Pakistan Joint Business Council, as well as the Joint Working Group on Oil, Gas, Energy and Infrastructure.

They also discussed a number of forward-looking topics on the bilateral cooperation agenda in trade, economy, industry, energy, investment, and transport.

The implementation of the CASA-1000 project and the formation of transit and transport corridors for accessing the Karachi and Gwadar seaports were considered an important factor in further strengthening the bilateral economic relationship.

Regarding countering the threats of terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and other forms of transnational organized crime, the interlocutors exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan.

The sides stressed that Tajikistan welcomes the implementation of any projects necessary for the revival of economic and social life, and security in Afghanistan.
