Prime Minister and Greek counterpart discuss EU external border developments

LITHUANIA, November 19 - Earlier today, 19 November, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Prime Minister has thanked Greece for its responsiveness, solidarity and practical assistance offered to Lithuania in the face of the hybrid attack from the Belarusian regime.

According to the Prime Minister, Lithuania highly values Greece’s support and joint efforts leading towards a unified EU’s response to the instrumentalization of irregular migration carried out by the Belarus regime, including further EU sanctions.

‘It is crucial for the EU to maintain unity and make no compromise to the regime that caused this crisis, otherwise migration flows will only continue to grow. Belarus must be pressured to stop this flow, allow people to return safely to their countries of origin and allow international organizations to provide humanitarian aid’, said Ingrida Šimonytė.

The Prime Minister has welcomed the cooperation between Lithuanian and Greek experts in the field of the management of illegal migration and informed the Greek counterpart on the latest developments at the Lithuania-Belarus border.
