A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and accomplishments of 1st Class Petty Officer

Harry Milton Beal and expressing condolences on his passing.

WHEREAS, First Class Petty Officer Harry Milton Beal died

Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, He was born on August 16, 1930, in Meyersdale,

Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Petty Officer Beal entered the United States Navy in

1948 as a gunner's mate aboard the Shenandoah, Tarawa; and

WHEREAS, Petty Officer Beal was one of the first sailors to

volunteer for a modern-era Navy SEAL team; and

WHEREAS, In 1955, Petty Officer Beal became part of

underwater demolition team 21 and 22, and in 1962, Petty Officer

Beal became plank owner of SEAL team 2; and

WHEREAS, Petty Officer Beal was a SEAL instructor and his

specialty was in underwater demolition; and

WHEREAS, During his career as a special operator in the

United States Navy, Petty Officer Beal was part of a team that

retrieved astronaut John Glenn after his space capsule touched
