A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2021 as "Pregnancy and Infant
Loss Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pregnancy and infant loss includes loss during and
after pregnancy, stillbirths, neonatal death, miscarriage and
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS); and
WHEREAS, A miscarriage is the loss of a baby before the 20th
week of pregnancy, and a stillbirth is the loss of a baby at 20
weeks of pregnancy and later, and both of these experiences are
pregnancy losses; and
WHEREAS, According to the American College of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, as many as 26% of all pregnancies and up to 10% of
clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage; and
WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, stillbirth affects about 1% of all pregnancies in
the United States, and there are approximately 24,000
stillbirths reported each year; and
WHEREAS, According to the National Institute for Health, SIDS
