A RESOLUTION
Designating November 15, 2021, as "Pennsylvania Recycles Day"
and joining "Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful" to make recycling
bigger and better in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The average person in Pennsylvania generates 4.8
pounds of solid waste per day or 1,752 pounds per year; and
WHEREAS, Recycling began in Pennsylvania in 1988 with the
passage of the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste
Reduction Act (Act 101) that requires larger municipalities to
recycle; and
WHEREAS, Today, more than 11.6 million residents, at least
94% of this Commonwealth's population, have access to recycling;
and
WHEREAS, Recycling contributes to clean water, saves energy
and preserves our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, Recycling materials like paper, cardboard, metal and
plastics can be transformed into new, usable items; and
WHEREAS, Recycling ensures that the old materials can be
correctly repurposed into new products; and
