Hundreds of D.C. firefighters and paramedics still have not been disciplined for failing to meet the city’s coronavirus vaccination requirement, according to a recent report.

Of the 2,048 uniformed and civilian D.C. Fire and EMS employees, 294 are unvaccinated and 280 have pending exemption claims for medical or religious reasons, WRC-TV (Channel 4) first reported Thursday.

City Administrator Kevin Donahue said those with pending exemption requests are fine for now, adding that it’s a small number of employees without any vaccine information on file who would first be targeted for disciplinary action.

“There are some firefighters who we don’t have any vaccine record for,” Donahue said, WRC reported. “It’s about 30, and they do not have a vaccine exemption request pending. Those are individuals who would be the first that we would take adverse action on.”

Donahue said there’s no timeline for when decisions on exemption requests will be made.

All D.C. government employees are required to report their vaccination status to management.
