The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Take Care of Texas program is looking for student storytellers to create short, catchy videos encouraging Texans to be good stewards of the state’s natural resources.

The annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest is open to students throughout Texas—whether they attend a public school, private school or are homeschooled—in grades six through 12.

The competition allows students to learn about protecting the environment and create videos to share this knowledge. Videos must be 30 seconds long and portray positive ways Texans can help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, or reduce waste.

Videos must include the slogan, “Take Care of Texas. It’s the only one we’ve got.” See the complete requirements for entries.

Three high school students will win scholarships from $500 to $2,500 and three middle school students will win GoPro camera packages, courtesy of contest sponsor Waste Management of Texas. The contest runs from Tuesday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Dec. 4. The public will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite videos from Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, through Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. After the public narrows down the entries, a panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from the sponsor will choose the first, second and third place winners from each of the grade groups.

Winners will be announced in early February 2021.

Take Care of Texas is a statewide campaign from TCEQ that encourages all Texans to help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste.
