TCEQ approves fines totaling $1,194,941

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $1,091,839 against 32 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations. 

Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: 12 air quality, two multimedia, two municipal solid waste, three municipal wastewater discharge, two petroleum storage tank, two public water system, five water quality, and one water rights.

Default orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: one municipal solid waste and two petroleum storage tank.

Included in the total is a fine of $600,000 against Union Carbide Corporation in Calhoun County, for air quality violations stemming from failure to prevent unauthorized emissions. As part of a supplemental environmental project, $300,000 will be paid to the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers to replace older diesel buses with buses that meet more stringent emissions standards.

In addition, on June 16 and 30, the executive director approved penalties totaling $103,102 against 51 entities.
