STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, USA, July 29, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Online videos of people throwing buckets of water at local law enforcement have recently surfaced across social media. This blatant disrespect of authority has caused outrage among both civilians and police officials nationwide. The Executive Club of Staten Island has launched the #hyrdrateheroes campaign to bring the community together and show their support and respect for law enforcement — Dominick Ciccarelli
“What we’ve seen over the past week is nothing short of outrageous,” said Dominick Ciccarelli, Executive Club of Staten Island Member and creator of the campaign. “Day in and day out Police Officers risk their lives to keep us safe, and we hope this campaign generates enough traction to show them how much the community at large appreciates and respects them.”
For the rest of the summer, people are encouraged to give a Police Officer a bottle of water, take a photo with them, and post it to their social media accounts using the hashtag #hydrateheroes. A small token of thanks, to promote solidarity within the community between civilians and officers.
“I’m glad we can demonstrate how normal people interact with cops, and generally anyone in their neighborhood,” said Councilman Joe Borelli. “It’s sad we need a hashtag to show people how to act, but here we are.”
Members of The Executive Club of Staten Island traveled to the 68th Precinct in Brooklyn where they captured the first photographs for the #hydrateheroes campaign. They will begin publishing them across social media today.
“This past week we saw the worst in people,” said Police Officer Joseph Imperatrice, Founder of Blue Lives Matter. “An overwhelming majority of individuals love and respect our police and #hydrateheroes is going to highlight that.”
All photos uploaded using #hydrateheroes will be streamed on the Executive Club of Staten Island’s website and social media accounts. Individuals are encouraged to tag and share @executiveclubsi when posting their photos.
