Purple Heart Homes, The Home Depot Foundation, and Bank of America Announce Purple Heart Homes Inaugural Family Day

1st annual event being held May 18, 2019 to celebrate the life of Dale Beatty and to honor the Service Connected Disabled Veterans served by Purple Heart Homes

STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, UNITED STATES, May 16, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ -- May 16, 2019, Statesville, North Carolina. Purple Heart Homes (PHH) (www.phhusa.org) is pleased to announce its’ inaugural Family Day, the first of an annual event that celebrates the many Service Connected Disabled and Aging Veterans that the organization has served since its’ inception in 2008. All PHH-served Veterans and their families are invited to join the PHH staff and their families, along with the community. The event will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the PHH headquarters from 8:00am-8:00pm. Together with Bank of America and the Home Depot Foundation, we invite everyone to join us for a day of fun, food, and entertainment.

This year, Family Day will celebrate the life of Dale Beatty, Co-Founder of Purple Heart Homes, who passed away in 2018. The event will begin at 8:00am with the building of raised garden boxes for PHH’s Patriot Memorial Garden. Food will be grown in these boxes and offered to the community in memory of Dale and Jerry, who were avid gardeners and shared their bounties with the people of Statesville. Boxes will also be available for purchase. A celebration starting at 12:00 pm will include live music by Rockie Lynne, Outlaw 21 - for which Dale played drums, Down the Mountain, and Jewell’s Harp, featuring Dale’s cousin Jewell Waldrup. A kid’s zone will feature inflatables, kid's characters Moana, Jasmine, and Captain America, fire trucks, rescue and military vehicles, and tethered balloon rides, food vendors, and a beer garden will be available for all to enjoy. Admission is free (vendors will charge patrons for food and drinks). All funds raised will benefit the Beatty Children’s College Fund.

John Gallina, CEO and Co-Founder of Purple Heart Homes, is delighted to launch the first of this annual event in memory of his friend, partner, and battle buddy Dale Beatty and his father Jerry. “It’s a fitting event for them,” he said. “Dale and Jerry were committed to the Service Connected Disabled Veterans of our nation, loved to garden, and their generosity with their harvest was well known in our community. They would be proud and pleased to have this gathering for children and adults, offering up food, fun, music, and the raised gardening boxes. Please join us for an action- packed, exhilarating day.”

More than 4 million Service Connected Disabled Veterans live in the United States today (U.S. Census Bureau, https://www.census.gov/newsroom/facts-for- features/2017/veterans-day.html), and over 50 percent of veterans 65 years of age and older live in homes built in or before the 1950’s and 1960’s that often are no longer suited to meet their needs because of their ages and disabilities.

Please join Purple Heart Homes and its partners in thinking about the value that a safe and accessible home brings to our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for each of us. Please consider donating to Purple Heart Homes, joining its’ Hearts of Honor Club, volunteering for a project, or starting a Chapter in your community. There are so many more of these veterans who need our help.
