San Diego Based Business Etiquette Expert Maryanne Parker Meets with Billionaire George Ross at Harvard Club of Boston discussing business and life

SAN DIEGO, CA, USA, October 2, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with billionaire George Ross, executive vice president and senior counsel to the Trump Organization for almost fifty years. He is also quite well known as one of the advisors on NBC’s The Apprentice. Mr. Ross is not only obviously extremely successful; he is also remarkably interesting, eloquent, and entertaining!
During our discussion, I asked him for his thoughts on the roles of etiquette and good manners in the business world, and his answers were thoughtful and quite insightful. Here are five fundamental business etiquette lessons I learned from him:

1. On whether good manners are an advantage or disadvantage in business: It depends on the atmosphere. Sometimes you need to be coarse to get your point across, and sometimes you need to be gentle. But the bottom line is to maintain your morals.

2. Always try to learn from the person in front of you. Do not ever underestimate anyone, because, as in my case, I have been where you are, but you haven’t been where I am, because I am ninety years old!

3. When you make a mistake, always own it, no matter how painful and embarrassing it might be. Always admit it. People relate better to people who do make mistakes, because this makes us human.

4. Not everybody will be your client or your business partner. Assess people well and sort them out. Give them small tasks and see if they can handle the responsibility, and then you can give them something really serious.

5. Be kind. We all go through struggles in life, and it is always a good thing for people to remember you as being kind. Kind doesn’t mean soft.
