CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, September 11, 2018 / -- Sequent Microsystems, a tech startup from Cupertino, CA has launched a Kickstarter Campaign for a new expansion card for the Raspberry Pi platform. Available in two formats, the card targets the Industrial and the Building Automation markets.

Shipment of these cards is expected by January 2019.

"Industrial Automation sensors and actuators use 4-20mA current loops, 0-10V levels and optically isolated I/O's. Traditional controllers have limited resources and cost hundreds of dollars" says Mihai Beffa, Sequent's CEO. "MegaIO-IND card brings to the Industrial Automation world a compact, low cost and expandable solution packed with features."

The Industrial Automation version (MegaIO-IND) has an MSRP of only $100, while the Building Automation (MegaIO-BAS) is priced at $90. Both cards are available on the Kickstarter campaign for up to 50% off MSRP. With only a few days left, the campaign is funded over 162% and a few low cost cards are still available.
Common specifications for both cards include:

• Four 0-10V Inputs
• Four 0-10V Outputs
• Four Optically Isolated Digital Inputs
• Four Optically Isolated Open Drain Outputs with PWM
• Four Optically Isolated 10A/250V Relays with status LEDs
• Four General Purpose LEDs
• RS485, CAN, and 1-Wire communication
• Real Time Clock with Battery Backup
• Configurable Interrupts
• Status LEDs on all digital inputs and outputs
• Neopixel support

In addition, the Industrial Version (MegaIO-IND) adds the following:

• Four Optically Isolated 4-20mA Inputs
• Four 4-20mA Outputs

Tailored for the Building Automation Systems, the MegaIO-BAS replaces the 4-20mA current loops, with the following:

• Four 10K Temperature Sensor Inputs
• Four more 0-10V Outputs (total eight)

Both cards can be stacked up to four levels high. This provides a compact system with enough resources to tackle the most complex Industrial and Building Automation challenges.

Command Line, Python and CODESYS drivers are available for both cards and can be downloaded from Programming examples will be made available for all environments.

Both cards have better than 0.2% linearity on all current channels, and better than 0.15% on voltage channels.

At the request of the Kickstarter backers, Sequent added support for one NEOPIXEL string of up to 1024 LEDS. Since the four open drain outputs have built-in PWM control and can be used for dimmers, the cards also steps onto the Lighting Systems territory.
