Queensland’s naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast is gearing up for a weekend of off road action in October hosting the state cross triathlon championships

CALOUNDRA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, August 29, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Queensland’s naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast is gearing up for a weekend of off road action in October with the hosting of the Queensland cross triathlon state championships, a world championship qualifier and round two of an all new Australian trail running series, Trail Run Australia.

Triathlon Queensland, the state governing body for triathlon have awarded the state championships to the TreX event on the Sunshine Coast as part of the Nissan State Series. The Nissan series incorporates sixteen of the most challenging and diverse triathlon events across Queensland and participants can earn points towards the overall series championships as well as racing for a State Championship Title at the event in October.

The TreX series has long been at the forefront of this unique form of triathlon in Australia which takes the traditional format of the sport and mixes it with a huge helping of heart, guts, mud and dirt as athletes take on a unique challenge with a swim, mountain bike and trail run, where the challenge is as much with mother nature as it is against other athletes.

Queensland championship contenders will tackle a challenging 1,000m swim in beautiful Ewen Maddock Dam, followed 19km of heart pumping XC mountain biking, and then finishing off with a 7km trail run which twists and turns through the awe-inspiring rainforests of Beerwah State Forest in the Landsborough hinterland.

Athletes will also be racing for a place in the team to represent Australia at the ITU World MultiSport Championships to be held in Spain in 2019 with the event also being announced by Triathlon Australia as a world championship qualifier.

Event Director, Robyn Lazenby from In2Adventure, the team who won the successful bid to bring the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships to Australia in 2016 told us that;
“We are so thrilled to introduce this new event, in October, on the Sunshine Coast. The area is often known for its beautiful beaches, but we’ve discovered that the hinterland holds some spectacular hidden treasures and presents the perfect backdrop for a weekend of off road action. Landsborough is an amazing place and we look forward to welcoming athletes from across Australia to this spectacular region to discover the thrill, challenge and pure joy that comes from racing off road in Australia’s backyard.”

The Sunshine Coast was also chosen as the destination to host round two of the newly launched Trail Run Australia series which takes runners to some of the most iconic and scenic destinations in Australia with four races in three states in 2018/19.

The Sunshine Coast MultiSport Festival is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council.

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason OPray welcomed the event to the Sunshine Coast.

“Our beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland is certainly quite scenic but it shouldn’t be under-estimated and is sure to provide a tough challenge to the competitors,” Cr OPray said.

“The event will be a fantastic way to show off that part of our healthy, smart, creative region.”

And it’s not just a weekend for elite athletes. TreX Cross Triathlon offers courses and distances for all ages and abilities including Standard, Sprint, Junior, Teaser and Dirt Kids events. Trail Run Australia includes half marathon, 11k and 5k options as well as a free kids’ event. This makes it an ideal weekend for hardcore racers, weekend warriors, families or those who just want to get into the great outdoors to visit one of Australia’s most scenic regions and enjoy the challenge of off road racing.

The weekend will take place at Ewen Maddock Dam in Landsborough with the TreX Cross Triathlon event taking place on the 27th of October and Trail Run Australia on Sunday 28th. To find out more and be a part of the off road action go to:
