A total RUB200 million was allocated to implementing educational programmes by Gazprom Neft in 2017, as part of its ongoing cooperation with specialist higher educational institutions. The company is continuing its work in synchronising education programmes at higher educational institutions this year, in line with current needs in technological development.
Gazprom Neft is engaged in ongoing cooperation with specialist higher educational establishments throughout the country, with specialist company faculties operating at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, and Omsk State Technical University. A specialist faculty in aviation refuelling and technical resources was opened at the Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation in 2017, in cooperation with Gazpromneft-Aero. This year a course on “Highways Construction” will commence at the Ryazan Institute of the Moscow Polytechnic University, involving Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, operator of Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business. A further company-sponsored masters course will open in September 2018 at St Petersburg State University — “Geological Support in Hydrocarbon Field Development”, under which students will work on Gazprom Neft projects at the university’s new digital modelling laboratory. Other masters courses form part of the educational process at the Peter the Great Polytechnic University, St Petersburg (Polytech), Tyumen State University and Tyumen Industrial University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Gazprom Neft is also involved in developing joint programmes at Tomsk Polytechnic University and Heriot Watt University, UK, where it is training specialists in geology and field development.
Participants on Gazprom Neft masters programmes undertake scientific research activities at MIPT’s Engineering Centre and at the hydrodynamic modelling and hydrodynamic well research laboratories at the Gazpromneft-Polytech Science and Educational Centre. Recruitment for the company’s master’s programme at Bashkir State University will begin in September 2018, where specialists in the geological structure of complex reservoirs will be trained in applying digital technologies in data processing and interpretation.
Lectures on oil and gas topics on Gazprom Neft foundation courses are led by company specialists, with the assignments and cases students work on being very close to the genuine technological challenges faced by Gazprom Neft — allowing students to be better trained for later work in a modern oil company.
Dozens of Russian students undergo training, internships and secondments at the company’s businesses and subsidiaries, undertake research projects, supervised by Gazprom Neft employees, and address genuine production challenges in modern laboratories, established with the company’s support. The most talented graduates, and those most interested in professional development, are subsequently invited to work at the company, with more than 380 undergraduates, graduates and PhD students being recruited on the basis of this work experience.
Kirill Kravchenko, Deputy CEO for Administration, Gazprom Neft, commented: “Our programme for cooperating with higher educational institutions is an effective business initiative, envisaging a return on investment by way of that most valuable resource — highly qualified specialists. Employee potential is what, predominantly, determines a company’s market competitiveness today and, accordingly, the outlook for the strategic development of the business.”
