3rd ANNUAL HALLET OAK GALLERY "ART IN ARCHITECTURE CONTEST" WINNERS ANNOUNCED


All seen in the above photographs received recognition as winners in the 3rd Annual Hallet Oak Gallery "Art in Architecture Contest" partnering with Texas Society of Architects on June 9, 2018. Overall, Savanna Filip of Hallettsville took home three awards for her two color photography entries of the Fayette County Courthouse built by J. Riely Gordon. Savanna Filip’s awards include the $200 prize for the Best of Show and she won First and Second Place for the Teen Category. In the Children’s Division, Kade Immekus won First Place for his black and white photography of the J. Riely Gordon mansion, which is best known as the J.F. Miller House in Gonzales. Alyssa Smith won Second Place for a color photograph of Prince of Peace, Sweet Home, Texas. Adult winners are Dorothy Bujnoch of Hallettsville for First Place, for her Grafe Homestead oil painting. Second Place winner is Darrell Wachel for his black & white photography of the Schulenburg Cranz Home. Special Categories created by the Judges went to Dennis Pesek for Exuberant Impressionism, an oil painting of the Lavaca County Courthouse designed by Eugene Heiner. Also, a Family Heritage Documentation award was given to Doris and Bob Zumwalt for their historic home in Hallettsville, Texas.

The contest was in conjunction with a two-day conference: 3rd Annual Hallet Oak Gallery "Art in Architecture" Celebrating Victorian Design -- which encompasses the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 – 1901). All entries had to depict some aspect of Victorian design. The Texas Society of Architects co-sponsored the event. Judges of the contest were Ann McGlone, AIA, President of Preservation Texas and Mike McGone, AIA, President of Texas Society of Architects.

It's a place to exhibit art, see art, and learn art and is the artistic and cultural center of Lavaca County.
